I have just made a short video on how I made my little house quilt and posted it to my Facebook page.
Please comment. I appreciate your feedback.
Here are some more details.
2 1/2" strips of fabric
4 3/4" squares of fabric
White or plain fabric for background cut into 2 1/2" strips and 4 3/4" squares
To start join two of the smallest scrap pieces together to make a strip at least 5 1/2” long. This is the door section.
Then add a 2 1/2" strip to each side. Press the block and then trim each block to be 5" x 6".
Make sure to centre the middle (door section) when you are trimming the sides.
Cut several of your 2 1/2" strips of your background fabric to 5" lengths.
Add these to one side of your block.
Your block should now be 5"x 8". Set them aside.
The roof sections are made from two HST (half square triangles).
To make your half square triangles. Cut blocks of your fabrics to 4 3/4". You will need an equal amount of white and coloured fabric.
Draw a line across the diagonal and sew 1/4" from the line on each side.
Cut along the drawn line and press with the seams to the coloured fabric.
Sew the two HST together as above
And I pressed the blocks again.
Your roof blocks should be trimmed to 8" x 4"
Lay your blocks out and place them as you like. (I could wait so see what it looked like so I took this photo before adding the sides on.)
Sew the roof sections into a row.
Add one extra 5" background strip to the LHS side of the first block and then sew the rest of the blocks into a two.
When joining the centre of your rows, centre the roof blocks with the centre of the door sections.
Now your houses are done. Add a border and quilt as desired.
Finally my notes.
