Teddy Bears, Patterns & Kits by Leading Australian Teddy Bear artist, Lisa Dopking |
ABOUT THE ARTIST |
Megelles is an exclusive bear making business owned and operated by Lisa Dopking.
Lisa's first attempt at bear making was in 1986 after completing a patchwork
quilt making course whilst she was based in Sydney. In 1990 she returned to
Brisbane and discovered the delights of fur fabric. She is now one of Australia's
most renowned teddy bear artists. Lisa established her business in 1995 and
the unusual name of 'Megelles' is a combination of her daughters' names – Megan
and Ellen. Each bear from Megelles is Lisa's original design, her creations are divided into three areas: Collectable Bears mostly one of a kind and very small limited editions of artist bears. Lisa designs and makes all |

the bears and their gorgeous outfits. She mainly uses homespun fabrics and embellishes
them with vintage doilies and old lace. She also likes to use the wonderful
array of patchwork fabrics available on today's market; Designer Bear Patterns for making bears, especially designed with the bearmaker in mind. All the patterns have full instructions and include the patterns for the outfits or accessories as photographed; and Bear related products (Stitcheries) – small quilts, stitcheries, wall hangings, cushions and patterns to make these items. You can access all of these items from the menu in the sidebar at above left, as well as navigate to all other sections of the Megelles website. To name her bears, Lisa uses the names of family and friends – especially surnames to help endow her bears with personality. As well as making her bears, Lisa was the organiser of Brisbane's only Bear Only show – Bears in Brisbane – for over 5 years. Lisa has been teaching bear making for 10 years and regularly holds bear making work- shops. Awards Lisa has been won numerous awards in Australia and in 2005 entered her first Toby Competition and was honoured with a TOBY Industry Choice Award for her bear Joseph (pictured above). She was very delighted to be nominated. |
